The Voi e-scooter trial has been re-instated in villages just outside Cambridge city centre. E-scooters and bikes will now be available again for use in Impington, Histon, Girton and Milton.

The service was suspended by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority in November 2022 as the locations should not have been included in the initial rollout and were "made in error". However, it has now been re-introduced after being given the green light by the Department of Transport.

More than 135,000 people in Cambridge have used the Voi e-scooters and bikes since the trial started in October 2020. They recently saw the key milestone of two million rides since launch with over 2.9 million kilometres travelled.

Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said: "In the past three years, electric scooters have transformed the way people travel across Cambridge, allowing commuters and visitors to enjoy quicker, healthier journeys.

"It's great that the benefits of e-scooters will now stretch beyond the City, enabling people who live outside of the centre to travel in for work, education and to see friends and family."

E-scooter parking racks are currently available outside Cambridge United Football Club, Cambridge Science Park and Cambridge University. A recent survey from Voi among riders in the city found that 25 per cent used them to travel to and from work.
