A 16-year-old boy is dead and another man is seriously injured after a dirt bike crash in Osceola County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The 16-year-old driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Marigold Avenue when he swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle traveling southbound on the same road.
According to FHP, the teen crashed into a metal pole on the shoulder of the road, which caused him and an 18-year-old passenger to fall off the bike. Because of where the teen fell, FHP says he was in the direct path of the oncoming vehicle.
Both the 16-year-old and his passenger were rushed to the hospital. There, the teen was pronounced dead.
The passenger suffered serious injuries, FHP said, but his current condition is unknown.
According to the report, the driver of the vehicle and both passengers were not injured and remained on scene.
FHP says this crash is still under investigation.
