A suspect driving an illegal dirt bike was taken into custody after colliding with a Philadelphia Highway Patrol officer and attempting to flee in Northeast Philly on Wednesday night, police said.
The crash happened in the area of Leon and Stanwood streets after 9:30 p.m.
Police said the highway patrol officer was heading west on Stanwood and Leon streets when the 22-year-old suspect driving the dirt bike went through a stop sign at a high rate of speed and struck the officer.
The 22-year-old tried to get away, but police said a neighbor helped the officer take the suspect into custody.
Both the officer and suspect were placed in stable condition at the hospital.
