A minor was transported to the hospital on Sunday following a collision in Hurricane between a dirt bike and a car.

Doug Thornton, public information officer for the Hurricane City Police Department, told St. George News that the crash involving a minor remains under investigation, allowing him to share only limited information at this time.

“I can tell you, the motorcycle was driving down the roadway, and it did not have the proper lights on,” Thornton said. “The other car went to make a U-turn, and there was a collision.”

Hurricane Valley Fire District Battalion Chief Tyler Ames reported that the Hurricane Police Department called the accident reconstruction team to the scene of the collision due to the minor's condition.

“He was unconscious the whole time that our crews were with him,” Ames said of the minor. “He had injuries to his right leg, and he was wearing a helmet at the time.”

Ames said the minor was transported to Intermountain Health’s Hurricane Emergency Services to help stabilize him before he was transported to St. George Regional Hospital. He did not have an update on the minor's condition.

Ames advised drivers to follow traffic laws, such as staying in their lane, keeping vehicles in good working order — including functioning blinkers and lights — and avoiding cellphone use while driving.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
