Conway Crash Involving Juveniles on Electric Dirt Bike Injures Two | Concord, NH Patch

Nov 13, 2024

CONWAY, NH - New Hampshire Fish and Game received a report of two juveniles injured in Conway Village after crashing into a utility pole while riding an electric dirt bike along the sidewalk Monday just before noon.

The crash took place near the Conway Fire Department fire station, who quickly responded, providing initial treatment to both children. The injured children were transported to Memorial Hospital for further care.

Both the rider and the passenger are expected to recover fully according to Conservation Officers.

Conservation officers say electric bicycles, including those designed to resemble trail or motocross bikes, are becoming increasingly popular. Some models are equipped with motors that assist in acceleration and can reach speeds above 28 mph.

These bikes, which lack pedals and are typically used off-road, are classified as Off-Highway Recreational Vehicles (OHRVs) and are subject to OHRV regulations.

"It's important to note that this differs from traditional electric bicycles, which must have pedals and motors no more than 750 watts."

Pedal-assist electric bikes are not considered OHRVs under current law.
