Alfa Romeo is set to introduce a compact SUV to take on the EX30
Alfa Romeo is preparing to introduce a compact electric SUV to compete with the likes of the Mini Countryman and the Volvo EX30. Here is what we know so far
The Italian automaker has provided a glimpse of its upcoming model through a teaser, signalling its imminent unveiling in the early months of the following year.
While the vehicle is currently referred to as the ‘Kid’ during its development phase, the final production name is yet to be disclosed. Positioned as Alfa Romeo's smallest offering, this electric SUV will complement the recently launched Tonale SUV in the brand's lineup.
The targeted segment for this vehicle is the subcompact premium crossover category, which features competitors such as the Mini Countryman and the new Volvo EX30.
This forthcoming Alfa Romeo model will serve as the company's maiden fully-electric product, signifying a significant step toward their commitment to sustainable mobility. However, Alfa Romeo has indicated that the lineup may also include a more affordable petrol-only or hybrid version, particularly for markets where electric vehicles have not gained widespread popularity.
The compact Alfa Romeo SUV is anticipated to share its platform with the Jeep Avenger, an urban SUV that was unveiled in Europe last year.
The electric variant of the Avenger offers a claimed driving range of 400 km, propelled by a 54 kWh battery and a 115 kW electric motor generating 260 N.m of torque. Alternatively, select European markets have access to a petrol version, equipped with a 1,2-litre engine producing 75 kW and paired with a manual transmission.

In a bid to involve its enthusiast base, Alfa Romeo has turned to its social media channels to seek suggestions for the name of this upcoming SUV. Fans are encouraged to participate and offer their ideas through comments on the designated posts.
As the unveiling date draws near, Alfa Romeo's compact electric SUV promises to bring the brand's distinctive style, performance, and driving dynamics to the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape.
By diversifying their portfolio with an electrified offering, Alfa Romeo aims to cater to the needs and preferences of a wider range of customers, while upholding their commitment to innovation and sustainability.
