Motorcyclist dies after crashing dirt bike at former X
A motorcyclist was fatally injured Tuesday when he crashed his dirt bike at a private training facility in Ramona that previously hosted X Games events, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 2:45 p.m. on the track called "The Slayground," located on Sutherland Dam Road and state Route 78, Cal Fire Capt. Brent Pascua said.
The rider had attempted to perform a jump but missed the landing, California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber said.
Witnesses called 911, and dispatchers coached the callers on how to administer CPR to the man, Pascua said. When paramedics arrived, they performed life-saving measures but the man's injuries were too severe.
He died around 3:40 p.m. before he could be taken to a hospital, Pascua said. The man's identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
The investigation of the incident is being handled by the Sheriff's Department, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The track is owned by motocross and supercross racing star Axell Hodges, the Ramona Sentinel reported in 2021. It was one of the three sites hosting the X Games in 2021.
