Firefighters said an electric motorcycle sparked a blaze at a Tigard apartment complex in the 6100 block of Southwest Bonita Road on Thursday.Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue

An electric motorcycle is to blame for a fire Thursday at a Tigard apartment building, firefighters said Saturday.

The motorcycle’s battery was not being charged at the time but erupted into flames anyway, engulfing a ground-floor unit in fire that spread to two additional units.

A total of nine people were displaced from the apartment complex in the 6100 block of Southwest Bonita Road, firefighters with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said. No tenants were injured.

It is not unheard of for electric gadgets to spark serious fires. An e-scooter caused a Northwest Portland apartment fire in August. Two similar fires erupted in September.
