Electric Bikes, ATV Coming To Bristol Police Department
Tom Sofield May 12, 2023
Bristol Borough police will have new tools to get around the town for routine patrols and big events.
Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III announced during Monday evening's council meeting that the borough has received grant funding for four electric bicycles and one all-terrain vehicle (ATV).
DiGuiseppe thanked State Sen. Steve Santarseiro and State Rep. Tina Davis, both Democrats, for obtaining grant funding for the vehicles. The exact dollar figure wasn't announced.
The mayor stated the bicycles and ATV will be in the police department's hands within months.
The powered-vehicles are smaller than traditional patrol vehicles and will allow officers easier access through crowded events, in the business districts, and along the canal path, DiGuiseppe said.
Bristol Borough police have used bicycles, but the electric bicycles are a new addition.
Several Bucks County police departments, including Middletown Township, use ATVs for off-road patrols.
